Insights from a Successful Stock Illustrator

IA had the opportunity to participate in an interview with a highly successful Adobe Stock illustration contributor, Annamei. Here is her portfolio of work. In the following interview, she shares her journey and tips for success.

Please describe your work.

I live in Russia and I’m a photographer and artist. My art is a mixture of photography and painting in Photoshop, primarily using a tablet. My illustrations are original fantasy creations with an underlying meaning or message.

Why did you decide to become an Adobe Stock Contributor?

I began contributing to Adobe Stock in 2011, after being encouraged by friends that had been contributing. In the beginning, I had a very small portfolio, but immediately I saw my illustrations selling. This motivated me to contribute further.

What kind of work do you submit?

The work I submit is fairytale and fairytale surrealism that reflects my fantasies. I always liked to create stories, but there were always in my thoughts. Now I can illustrate some of these stories to show everyone. Sometimes my work contains dark humor, sometimes it depicts happy fairy tales, and sometimes I draw sad or difficult stories.

What illustrations are your best sellers?

Christmas or Easter themes sell well, as well as illustrations from the fairy tale Alice in Wonderland, which is my favorite subject.

When do you do your illustrations for Stock?

Creating for stock has become my full-time job.

How do you determine what to submit?

Buyers like bright, funny illustrations, with a bit of surrealism. I try to include those elements in each of my illustrations, and it works.

What do you like about Adobe Stock?

I love the easy navigation. And I like how well my art sells!

Do you have any words of advice for future contributors?

I advise future contributors to have patience. To create an interesting and sellable illustration you need to put in effort and time. Look at the world around you translate it into your work in unique ways. And keep current on your computer graphics skills to keep your work at a high level of quality.
