Mike Mayhew has been illustrating comics and painting awe-inspiring covers for over two decades, now. Utilizing both traditional(pen/ink/watercolors) and digital media, Mayhew specializes in bringing those larger than life comic book characters to life!
If you could only buy one Mike Mayhew comic, the one to get(in my humble opinion) is X-Men Origin: Jean Grey #1(2008)(bottom image). This is the first completely painted comic book by Mayhew and it’s gorgeous! It also doesn’t hurt that it’s about one of my favorite X-Men characters, but it stands on it’s own as a masterpiece of comics illustration. I love the way Mayhew captures the emotions of his characters, especially in their facial expressions.
Other notable works by Mayhew include Elektra, Vampirella, Mystique, Zorro, She-Hulk, and a recent comics adaptation of George Lucas’ original script for “The Star Wars”. In addition to that, he also illustrated a Mary Jane Watson(of Spider-Man) young adult novel and created commercial art for Fox’s Fantastic Four film and Warner Brother’s Superman Returns.
