This week we feature somebody who is, for the most part, unknown in the comics world.  Jennifer Ely illustrated the variant cover to the new Action Lab comic, Tomboy #1, written & drawn by Princeless artist M. Goodwin.  Ely exhibits a hauntingly human touch in her work  and masterfully contrasts her warm and cool colors.
Jennifer Ely mostly works in film and animation, most notably doing character designs and backgrounds for the 3D stop-motion animated film The Boxtrolls, released by Laika Entertainment in 2014. Â Another favorite comics artist of mine, Graham Annable, was co-director on that film, which is worth a look, if you haven’t seen it yet.
In addition to her various illustration & film projects, Ely also finds time to teach online at The Oatley Academy of Concept Art and Illustration.
Here’s to seeing more comic book cover art(and maybe interiors, too!) from Jennifer Ely in the future! In the meanwhile, you can keep up with her latest news & art on her tumblr blog here.
