I’ve shared some of the Hernandez Bros. work before in a previous post, but this time we’re going to focus specifically on Gilbert Hernandez(AKA ‘BETO).  Gilbert, Mario, and Jaime Hernandez made comics history when they launched Love & Rockets back in 1981, with a self published black & white edition of their first issue.  Renowned indy comics publisher Fantagraphics would soon take notice and in 1982 they began publishing an ongoing Love & Rockets series in a magazine format.

Gilbert’s penchant for the bizarre and demented always appealed to my sensibilities.  He’s certainly not a one-trick pony, though. His masterful Palomar: The Heartbreak Soup Stories weaves a complex and intricate tale about the people living in the mythical Central American town and I wouldn’t be surprised if the epic is one day adapted for TV/movies.

Today, Gilbert Hernandez continues to work on Love & Rockets with his brothers and he finds time to work on his own solo projects, like his new comic book Blubber and the upcoming Maria M. Book 2 .  He also collaborates with other creators, outside the family.  The most recent example being the DC/Vertigo series The Twilight Children with artist Darwyn Cooke.

Feel free to follow Gilbert Hernandez here to see the latest art and see what he’s ranting about!

OK, oops! Thank you for the correction. I’ll switch for something else. I love Altergott’s Raisin Pie! Now, I’m embarrassed…

Cool. This is especially interesting for me as an author who is permanently in need of new images not only for stories, but also for content I generally stand for. It’s good to have a pool to find talented graphic designers. I for one lack both talent and skill in image crafting
