Ray Bradbury 1920-2012

The world mourns the passing Ray Bradbury, of a true American treasure. While his literary achievements took us on journeys beyond this world, Bradbury also reached deep into the soul of the 20th century. In addition to the power of the printed word, his body of work was graced with a visual legacy that may just last forever. Some of my favorite images (clockwise from top left) include the cover of Weird Fantasy Comics by Al Feldstein, A cover for Fahrenheit 451 by the artist most closely associated with Mr. Bradbury, Joseph Mugnaini, The poster for the film Something Wicked This Way Comes by David Grove, a wonderful spread from Argosy Magazine by James Bingham, and finally a detail from a Bantam paperback cover by an unknown artist (!).  While this only scratches the surface, a marvelous book called Bradbury an Illustrated Life by Jerry West was published by Wm Morrow in 2002.

Craig & Karl. In Your Face.

I’ve been meaning to post something on the amazing art of New York and London based and design duo Craig & Karl for a while. Here’s a typical big, bold piece for The New York Times on relief pitcher facial hair over the ages. BOOM! Consider another item crossed off my bucket list.
