Illustration Friday Joins the Illustration Age Family!

Today we have some very exciting news to share!

We are extremely proud to welcome the popular and inspiring illustration website and community Illustration Friday to the Illustration Age family! The site’s founder, Penelope Dullaghan (whose work is shown above) has decided after 10 years of running the site that it is time to focus on other interests and has graciously entrusted Illustration Friday’s future in our caring hands.

In Penelope’s words:

“This is a hard note to write… But I have decided to move on from Illustration Friday. I’ve been running the site for close to 10 years already (my how time flies!), and my life is now heading in a different direction. So it’s time for me to let IF go.

As of this week I am handing the reigns over to Thomas James of Illustration Age. He’s a passionate community organizer, loves illustration as much as I do and will take good care of Illustration Friday – and you, the good folks of this wonderful artist’s community. I’m confident that the site will continue to grow and flourish in his capable care.

It’s been my honor and such a pleasure to have brought IF to life and to watch it grow into what it is today. But most of all, I have been incredibly inspired by all of you, and all the artwork that you guys have contributed. You all are amazing.

I’m sad to be leaving, but very excited about what the future holds. I wish you all so very well, and I hope that you continue to make beautiful art every week.” – Penelope

What does this mean for Illustration Friday?

I have great respect for the community that Penelope has built and nurtured over the years, and so it’s very important to me to keep that going strong, and also help it to grow even bigger and better than before while still maintaining the spirit that it was founded on.

Illustration Friday will remain its own stand-alone entity while becoming a member of the Illustration Age “family”. I’ll be drawing on my experiences with this site, as well as the now-defunct Escape from Illustration Island, to expand upon Penelope’s efforts to nurture community, inspiration, and education for all who participate, while having some fun along the way!

Thanks so much to Penelope Dullaghan for creating such a wonderful project in Illustration Friday, and for the true honor of trusting me with something so important and personal to her.
