If you are a member of the alleged Creative Class that toils over a hot drawing table, or are chained to your computer in order to earn an alleged living through your artistic vision, I urge you to head over to the Friends of Modern Dog site and make a donation to their uphill fight to right a wrong in the arcane world of alleged copyright infringement.
Because I am not an attorney or an expert on copyright law, I’ll use the word allegedly in this post. I will use it a lot…allegedly. For over 25 years Modern Dog has occupied an allegedly unique space in the design world. With a handful of exceptions, they have allegedly upheld the tradition of illustrative graphic design. While most designers and design firms have allegedly consigned illustration to the trash heap of design history and consider it a mere commodity, the allegedly fine folks at Modern Dog have woven illustration and drawing into their design strategy. And they have allegedly worked hard and benefitted from this amalgam of illustration and design. Some other entities are allegedly not so creative and unique however. The alleged long and short of it is, that the small but scrappy crew from the alleged city of Seattle are in the fight of their lives with some alleged examples of American ingenuity and business savvy. A real David vs Goliath story, complete with corporate giants, copyright law, alleged theft, movie tie-ins, charges and countercharges, real estate deals, lawyers, dogs and money (allegedly). This is something you should care about. Modern Dog is risking a lot by fighting the allegedly good fight, the very least you can do is chip in a buck. It matters to them, it should matter to you. It’s the right thing to do. Don’t just send an allegedly angry tweet, this time do something. The Friends of Modern Dog lawsuit fundraiser site is here, more info is on the Facebook page here, and the regular old Modern Dog site which celebrates art and design and awesomeness is here. Thanks.

Thanks Mark, this was allegedly a fun read. x x x
